Sunrise at the Arcalis peak

Every 7 August at 7:37 am, an extraordinary natural phenomenon occurs. From an exact point on the Arcalis peak, the sun is visible for three minutes through a large hole in the rocks.

This natural phenomenon was rediscovered by Bonaventura Adellach during night expeditions to the Pic d’Arcalís, but it seems that ancient inhabitants of these lands already knew of its existence.

In Ordino Arcalis we don't want to miss this annual event, and we have organized a short excursion to Arcalis peak. A headlamp is required for this activity. 

Programme

• 5:30 am – Meeting point at the Port del Rat Tunnel (access with personal vehicle).
• 5:45 am – Start of the ascent with mountain guides to Pico de Arcalís.
• 7:37 am – Observation of the sunrise.
• 8:30 am – Breakfast in La Coma.
• 9:15 am – Ascent to the Mirador Solar de Tristaina viewpoint by chairlift.

Included in the breakfast

• Mini toast of bread with tomato with ham, cheese and cold meat
• Catalan sausage sautéed with Cherry tomatoes
• Croissants, pain au chocolat and coiled puff pastry
• Mineral water, glass of wine or beer and coffee and infusions
