Ordino Arcalís prepares for summer

We left the snow season behind and started working on summer days. The mountain is stripped of snow, nature does its work … But we are also preparing for the winter 2020 novelties! As the snow melts, the activity in the season keeps its rhythm!

The spring and summer seasons are ready. Excursions, activities, gastronomy… in a few days we will be able to advance all that we have prepared for you, but for the moment, we will tell you about the events that are organised in the Ordino Arcalís station and in the Ordino parish. Bicycle, mountain races, everything that fits in these mountains.

Mountain races

The first competition of the summer will be the Casamanya Extrem Trofeo Crèdit Andorrà, which will take place on 16 June. It is an ascent on foot from the Plaza Mayor of Ordino to the emblematic peak of the Casamanya. There are two routes, one more demanding, 5 km with 1,400 m drop, the classic with 3.5 km and 760 m drop, and the mini, with 1.7 km and 229 m drop.

We do not leave the mountain races so that in July (from 16 to 21) the Andorra Ultra Trail arrives again, the already consecrated race par excellence in the Principality and in the Pyrenees, and that every time has more international renown. One more year there will be 5 races, aimed at all types of runners: the Ronda dels Cims, a race of 170 km and 13,500 meters of positive slope, the Mítico: a race of 112 km and 9,700 meters of positive slope, the Celestrial: a race of 83 km and 5,000 meters of positive slope, the Summits Marathon: a race of 42.5 km and 3,000 meters of positive slope and the Solidaritrial: a race of 10 km and 750 meters of positive slope.

All of them will be set in the spectacular Andorran mountains and are based on two pillars: sustainability and responsibility towards those who do not have the privilege of being able to enjoy nature.

Already in autumn, a new edition of the alpine race “The 2900” will take place, which links the seven highest peaks of Andorra and where participants must overcome the technical difficulties of these ascents. The peaks are the Comapedrosa (2,944 m), Roca Entravessada (2,928 m), Pio del Estanyó (2,915 m), Pico de Medacorba (2,913 m), Pico de la Serrera (2,912 m), Pico de la Portelleta (2,905 m) and the Pico de Fuente Blanca (2,904 m).

The classic Atraviesa la Massana – Ordino, which has a more familiar and less competitive side, will also be held on August 4.

Cycling

One of the strong points of the station is the majesty of the Arcalís port. A mythical place for the lovers of the bicycle, as much of route as of mountain, that year after year visit us. One of the attractions that cyclists find is to make the same ascent that the best cyclists in the world have made on three occasions.

Ordino Arcalís has been three times the final stage of Le Tour de France.

If you want to feel the same as the Tour runners, you can simulate the circuit by taking part in the Tour of the Ports of Andorra, which this year is held on 14 July and reaches its 42nd edition. 4 routes exist, depending on the level of the route. The longest one, classified as 4 **** has 109 kms and 3232 m of unevenness, the one with 3 ***, contemplates an ascent of 81 kms and 2,322 m of unevenness, the one with 2 ** 53 kms and 1,873 m of unevenness, and finally, the one with 1 *, with 27 kms and 1,109 m of unevenness.

In September it will be the turn of one of the most awaited appointments in the calendar of sporting events: The Tour of Spain. On the 1st of September the 9th stage of the Vuelta will arrive in Andorra, which will be similar to those of the final traca of Vuelta 18. The Coll de Ordino will be climbed in the opposite direction to the one of 2018, in the Coll de la Gallina for its hardest part and the final will link the Comella, the unpublished port of Engolasters and a new section of 4 km plans that will connect with the final climb to Cortals de Encamp. It will be one of the key stages for the general classification.

And waiting for us to be able to inform about the summer season news, you can train to participate in these competitions. We hope to see you at Ordino Arcalís this summer!
